What'd They Say?

Hi, everyone, this is Kyle - the soundguy/DJ for the Cincinnati Rollergirls. I thought I'd take a couple minutes and try to explain the current state of affairs with the arena sound system.

You've probably noticed that the sound clarity on the floor could use improvement, to say the least. It's a bit disappointing to have such fantastic announcers as Tank and Collier Mama, and to be unable to understand 90% of what they say.

The sound system at the Cincinnati Gardens is comprised of 4 mono-directional speakers - one mounted at each corner of the scoreboard. In an ideal world, each of these speakers would be pointed almost laterally, out at the stands, while two smaller speakers would be pointed downwards. This arrangement is essentially what we're working on with the Gardens' in-house technician.

In the meantime, however, I'm doing what I can with the 4 existing speakers - they are currently tilted rather sharply, to include at least some of the floor/track space in the projection cone of each speaker. While this is less than ideal, I will continue to try to improve sound clarity on the floor as much as is possible with the resources available.

I'd be happy to consider any suggestions, comments, or criticisms that folks would like to submit. While this post largely regards the state of sound on the floor/track, I'd also welcome information about sound quality/clarity in the stands!

Also, if you have specific song requests to be played during bouts, feel free to leave 'em here or let me know during gametime. 8-)

Kyle is the man. He is really busting his butt to help with the sound and the music this season. If you see him at the game behind the announce booth say hi to him and give him a high five for all the hard work he does. Then buy him a drink at Grammers afterwards.

I know this is off-topic, but what do you have to do to get seating on the purple couch?

Well, I can't give away the secret, but I'll give you a hint - do you have any experience scrubbing out leather facemasks after 4 hours of high energy announcing? If you answer correctly, we might just talk about a seat on the big purple couch. 8-)

In the real world, though, I have no idea. Tank might know.

Along the same lines, I have a buddy whose birthday is the 29th. Is there any way that I could arrange for something thoroughly embarrassing to occur at some point?
